College Sports Television has agreed to acquire Official College Sports Network from Student Advantage Inc.
OCSN builds, hosts, maintains and markets official Web sites for more than 145 college athletic departments, conferences and related associations, and it also operates CollegeSports.com (www.collegesports.com), the most-trafficked Web site devoted exclusively to college-sports news and information.
The company is also the nation's largest seller of college-licensed merchandise on the Internet through its network of official online stores.
In other CSTV news, the network has been launched on Adelphia Communications Corp. and Insight Communications Co. Inc. systems.
Adelphia launched CSTV in the Los Angeles market and in Colorado Springs, Colo. The MSO is also scheduled to launch the network next month in Cleveland; West Palm Beach, Fla.; and State College, Pa.
Insight has launched CSTV in Louisville and Bowling Green, Ky., and it is expected to follow suit in Champaign, Ill., and Bloomington, Lafayette and Kokomo, Ind., in December.
In the first quarter of 2004, Adelphia plans to launch CSTV in Bangor, Lewiston and Augusta, Maine; Manchester, N.H.; north and central Florida; and in markets throughout Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, West Virginia and Tennessee.
During that same quarter, Insight will bring the network to Columbus, Ohio; Lexington, Ky.; and Peoria and Springfield, Ill.
