The Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing's latest
Pulse survey found both TV viewing and Internet usage climbing over the
past two years.
TV watching has jumped from 15.8 hours per week in 2000 to 17.2 hours in
2002, while Internet usage jumped from 6.8 hours to 8.2 hours over the same
The survey also found that the number of homes with PCs and TVs in the same
room jumped from 31 percent in 2000 to 37 percent in 2002.
Also, 59 percent of homes had PCs and nearly one-half of those, 49 percent,
had Internet access. Some 48 percent of consumers said they spend their leisure
time surfing the Internet, up from 35 percent in 1998.
DVD penetration jumped from 8 percent to 29 percent over the past five years,
the survey found, with another 19 percent saying they planned to buy DVD players
in the next year.
