CTANNY Gives Out Gilbert Awards

Nine companies and individuals received '2001 Gilbert Community Service
Awards' from the Cable Television and Telecommunications Association of New York
recently.

The awards are named for the late Peter Gilbert, founder of Gilbert Media,
and they recognize outstanding public-service programs by member operators in
New York.

The winners were Mid-Hudson Cable and Adelphia Communications Corp. for
self-initiated public-service programs; Time Warner Cable Massena and
Cablevision Systems Corp. of New York City for joint public-service programs;
Cablevision and VH1 for campaigns pairing operators with associate members; News
12 Long Island for investigative journalism; and New York 1 News for breaking
news.

Laraine Mirabile of Staten Island Cable was named educator of the year. And
Jeffrey Crocker of Adelphia's Niagara Falls system was given $5,000 and a plaque
in recognition of his personal community service.

A special president's award was presented to Dr. Lee Whitmore of Cablevision
for the creation of its 'Power to Learn' program.
