Karl Carter has joined Current as vice president of marketing and vanguard ideas.
Carter had been co-CEO of Inner City Enterprises.
In his new role, he will focus on the development of the network’s brand personality, marketing, encouraging viewer-contributed-content participation and helping to build new models of collaboration and integration with advertisers.
Current -- which described itself as “the first national network created by, for and with an 18- to 34-year-old audience, inviting them to change the paradigm of television in becoming active collaborators” -- is scheduled to launch Aug. 1. Its chairman is former vice president Al Gore, and Joel Hyatt is the service’s CEO.
