Current will be the official television partner for the 2005 SXSWclick Festival following an agreement with South by Southwest Conferences & Festivals (SXSW).
The SXSWclick Festival is a new online film festival that incorporates mobile technology. Producers can submit films through the SXSW Web site (www.sxsw.com/film/click) by June 10.
SXSW said the festival is open to all forms of graphic storytelling -- from music videos to flash animation and beyond -- but works must be five minutes or less. Submissions are also accepted as DVDs, VHS tapes or .swf files on disk.
Current will help promote SXSWclick on its Web site (www.current.tv), and the network will hand out an undetermined amount of “Reel Current” awards, which are given to aspiring filmmakers.
Recipients of these awards will have their pieces air on the network after its Aug. 1 launch.
“South by Southwest provides a unique platform for independent creators to meet each other, share ideas and showcase their work,” Current associate manager of partnership marketing and promotions Suemyra Shah said in a prepared statement. “By partnering with SXSWclick, Current is extending our commitment to independent media, and we hope it's the first step of a larger collaboration.”
