Carlsbad, Calif. -- The Discovery Networks U.S. digital
suite, Toon Disney, CNN/SI and Goodlife Television Network were among the channels
included as Daniels Cablevision's system here makes the jump to 170 channels.
Daniels launched digital with 41 channels in December, and
it already bumped its offering once in a leap to 93 channels in March. So far, 7,000
customers have signed on for digital service, the company said.
But with the channel expansion comes an analog price
increase. Daniels will raise the price of both its basic and "Cable Plus" tiers
by 5 percent, bringing the analog expanded-basic bill to $41.45 per month, plus converter
rental of $3.50 -- a 55 cent increase -- on either an analog or digital converter. The
digital tier will remain the same, at $10 per month.
Premium units will increase, too, from $1 per month to $3.
Rising programming costs, and not digital deployment, led to the price increases,
according to the cable company.
Other networks to be added to the digital tier July 28 are
INSP-The Inspirational Network, ZDTV, America's Health Network, Fit TV, The Outdoor
Channel, Box Classic and Box Urban. Premium additions are HBO Family, Showtime 2 and 3,
Cinemax 2, Encore True Stories, Encore Action, Starz!, BET/Starz!3 and The Movie Channel
2. There are 31 pay-per-view slots.
Because of the success of the digital tier, which includes
Digital Music Express, Daniels will halt a la carte sale of digital music at the end of
