David Leavy Expands Role at Discovery

Discovery Communications said David Leavy has been promoted to the role of chief corporate operations and communications officer, effective immediately and reporting to CEO David Zaslav.

In his new role, he  will add to his portfolio oversight of Discovery’s global technology and operations function, which includes broadcast operations; technology strategy and architecture; IT infrastructure, systems and data solutions; and information security, Discovery said. 

“I am very proud of David and his commitment and contributions at Discovery over a long period of time,” Zaslav said in the release about the 16-year veteran of Discovery. “He is a great guy who has had a big impact on our global growth, purpose-driven culture and business operations. Beyond his leadership, work ethic and general capacity, David is one of the most dedicated managers and versatile executives at the company. I could not be happier to have him and his continued leadership at Discovery for years to come.”

Leavy had been chief communications officer and senior executive vice president, corporate marketing and business operations. He will continue to oversee the following functions: Discovery’s creative and corporate marketing, government relations, public policy and standards and practices; global corporate communications; talent management; and business operations, including administration, security, travel, real estate and facility functions. He also leads Discovery’s in-house media agency, the Discovery Agency, which operates a 360° suite of media services including creative strategy, design and production; and media planning, portfolio analytics, and experiential events and partnerships.

Prior to Discovery, Leavy was chief spokesman and senior director of public affairs for the National Security Council and deputy White House press secretary for foreign affairs under President Bill Clinton.
