EchoStar Communications Corp. said Wednesday that it has begun offering nine
local broadcast channels in Hawaii.
Local affiliates of ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and United Paramount Network, as well
as four independent stations, were added to the company's Dish Network
The company did not sign a retransmission consent deal with the local Fox
station. Until Dish adds Fox, it will offer local-broadcast-package subscribers
a $1 discount off the monthly fee of $5.99.
EchoStar's retransmission contract with Fox Broadcasting Co.'s
owned-and-operated stations is set to expire by the end of this month. At press
time Wednesday, a spokesman for EchoStar said the companies had not yet
announced a new contract.
Also, DirecTV Inc. said Tuesday that it would add local broadcast stations
from Norfolk, Va., by late August.
