Digeo Adds Telephony to ‘Moxi’

Digeo Inc. introduced the “Moxi Telephone” application for its “Moxi Media Center” software platform.

The vendor said it now offers the “triple play” of digital cable, high-speed data and voice-over-Internet-protocol telephony.

Moxi Telephone can be added with a software upgrade that requires no new equipment or phone wiring, giving Moxi Media Center users an on-screen TV interface for features including caller ID and call logging.

Additional features -- such as the ability to listen to voice-mail messages, to answer incoming calls, to assign caller-ID images and to flag and/or redirect specific calls for transfer to external numbers or voice mail -- will be added at a later date, Digeo said.

“Providing telephony features to customers at an affordable price point will be a phenomenal growth area for cable in 2005," Digeo CEO Jim Billmaier said in a prepared statement.

“Tightly integrated video and voice features on the TV will be a competitive point of difference for cable operators as they battle the satellite and telecommunications companies for market share,” he added.
