‘DirecTV 8’ Launches Successfully

High-power direct-broadcast satellite “DirecTV 8” successfully launched Sunday at 10:59 a.m. (PST) from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, DirecTV Inc. said Monday.

The bird, built by Space Systems/Loral, was sent into space aboard a “Proton M/Breeze M” launch vehicle provided by International Launch Services.

Hybrid Ku/Ka-band DirecTV 8 will help DirecTV to maintain high-quality, high-power DBS service from the 101 degrees west longitude orbital slot.
