DirecTV Inc. will begin offering local channels via satellite in 13 markets Friday, bringing its total to 77.
“Expanding our local-channel coverage is crucial to maintaining our competitive edge over cable,” DirecTV executive vice president of programming Stephanie Campbell said in a prepared statement.
The 13 markets launching Friday are: Albany, N.Y.; Albuquerque-Santa Fe, N.M.; Baton Rouge, La.; Dayton, Ohio; Flint-Saginaw-Bay City, Mich.; Harlingen-Brownsville, Texas; Lafayette, La.; Lexington, Ky.; Monterey-Salinas, Calif.; Omaha, Neb.; Reno, Nev.; South Bend-Elkhart, Ind.; and Spokane, Wash.
