DirecTV Inc. inked two launch agreements with Arianespace Thursday.
The first covers the launch of the “Spaceway 2” satellite in April. Spaceway 2 is one of the four next-generation satellites DirecTV announced Wednesday as part of a “massive expansion” of local and national high-definition channels.
The two parties’ second deal covers an unnamed direct-to-home bird.
“Our relationship with DirecTV began more than a decade ago with the launch of DBS-1,” Arianespace CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall said in a prepared statement. “We are proud to have played an important role in the successful development of direct-to-home television in the United States, and we look forward to being a part of its bright future.”
