The planned launch of DirecTV Inc.'s seventh direct-broadcast satellite,
scheduled for midday Monday, was aborted following standard prelaunch
procedures, DirecTV said Monday.

The company said Loral Space & Communications Ltd.-built DirecTV 5
remains ready to launch aboard a Russian Proton rocket in Kazakhstan for a
possible relaunch attempt Tuesday at 1 p.m. EST.

International Launch Services will post an update on the launch at www.ilslaunch.com.

DirecTV plans to launch its newest satellite into the 119 degrees west
orbital location.

The bird will provide capacity for new local channels, as well as serving as
a replacement for DirecTV 6, which delivers Spanish-language and high-definition
television programming.

If the launch proves successful, DirecTV 5 should be operational in
July.
