DirecTV Inc. said Thursday that it was partnering with the Hispanic
Federation to provide free educational television to 500 Hispanic-neighborhood
schools in the New York area.
The announcement comes one day after the direct-broadcast satellite company
launched its 'School Choice' programming initiative.
DirecTV will donate free DBS hardware and programming. The Hispanic
Federation will help fund installation and determine which schools will receive
the free systems.
In addition to English-language fare, School Choice includes such
Spanish-language channels as CNN en Español, Discovery en Español, Canal Sur, TV
Chile and Univision.
