DirecTV Broadband said Tuesday that it is working with Texas Instruments Inc.
to deploy voice-over-Internet-protocol services to the broadband provider's
digital-subscriber-line customers.

DirecTV Broadband plans to begin deploying the new residential gateways as
part of its third-generation technology late this year.

The new TI model 'AR5V10' gateways would allow two digital phone lines per
household, plus home-network interfaces, the companies said in a press
release.

DirecTV Broadband hopes to deliver a gateway that its customers can
self-install.

Telocity Inc. -- which was later sold to Hughes Electronics Corp. and renamed
DirecTV Broadband -- began a relationship with TI in early 2000.

DirecTV Broadband currently counts more than 100,000
subscribers.
