DirecTV Inc. and Samsung Electronics America Inc. launched a $15 million advertising campaign aimed at driving sales of Samsung HDTVs and DirecTV programming packages.
Samsung -- which partnered with the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing and eight major MSOs earlier this year on an HDTV promotion -- is now helping DirecTV to attract cable customers.
DirecTV and Samsung said consumers that buy any Samsung HDTV for $999 and above will get an instant rebate of $100 off any Samsung HD set-top or DirecTV high-definition digital-video recorder.
New DirecTV customers that buy its “NFL Sunday Ticket” National Football League out-of-market subscription package and an HD programming package will get four free months of DirecTV’s “Total Choice Premiere” programming package with local channels and six free months of DirecTV’s HD programming tier.
Existing DirecTV customers will be able to get $100 off Samsung DirecTV HD receivers if they buy Samsung HDTV monitors for $999 or more, plus six months of DirecTV’s HD programming package, including Showtime HD.
The offers run through Oct. 30.
DirecTV launched a direct-mail campaign this week touting the offer in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Samsung and DirecTV also plan to run national TV spots for the offer.
