DirecTV, Verizon Reach Marketing Deal


Attempting to match MSOs’ multipronged service offerings, Verizon Communications has reached a strategic marketing agreement with DirecTV Inc. to package phone and video services.

DirecTV officials confirmed the agreement -- which won’t go into effect until next year -- but would not reveal specific details. Verizon executives could not be reached for comment at press time.

Sources close to the two companies said Verizon would bundle DirecTV programming as part of its local, long-distance, wireless and digital-subscriber-line services.

It was unclear whether DirecTV’s video service or Verizon’s various phone and Internet packages would be offered at substantial discounts.
