Discovery, ESPN Hit 90M Mark

Commemorating its 20th anniversary month, Discovery Channel has surpassed the 90 million-subscriber plateau, according to Nielsen Media Research estimates for June.

A far cry from the 156,000 homes it reached at launch in June 1985, Discovery Channel is now in some 90.2 million U.S. homes and 475 million in 160 nations, making it the most widely distributed cable service in the world.

ESPN will count almost 90.1 million U.S. subscribers next month, according to Nielsen.
