Discovery Communications Inc. said Wednesday that it will launch Discovery Lifestyle Networks for its markets outside of the United States.
Discovery Lifestyle Networks will be a new group of three core channels dedicated to lifestyle programming: Discovery Travel & Adventure, Discovery Home & Leisure and Discovery Health.
The initial market will be India, during the fourth quarter.
DCI said the networks will have a distribution of 54 million cumulative subscribers in 81 countries at launch, and they will be available in 15 languages.
“Discovery is very optimistic about the potential global marketplace for high-quality lifestyles programming, and we view Discovery Lifestyle Networks as a major growth initiative for the company,” DCI CEO Judith A. McHale said in a prepared statement.
Added Discovery Networks International president Dawn L. McCall: “Discovery Lifestyle Networks will benefit from the 15 years we have spent developing the Discovery brand outside of the United States, building our broad international footprint and deploying an extensive delivery infrastructure, which today delivers 73 feeds in 34 languages around the world.”
