Discovery Familia Doubles Sub Base

Discovery Familia has more than doubled its subscriber base since its bow in 2007.
According to Nielsen Media Research data, Discovery Familia, which offers more Spanish-language preschool fare than any other network, now counts nearly 2 million homes, having added over 1 million subscribers in the past year. Network officials said that outpaces the gains of any other Spanish-language cable network.
"The rapid growth of Discovery Familia is a testament to the value and appeal of the network's unique, high-quality programming that brings families together and celebrates the Hispanic culture," said Luis Silberwasser, senior vice president and general manager, Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group, in a statement.
As part of its commitment to education, Discovery Familia will introduce Mundi, a new animated character who will join kids' favorite, Doki on journeys of world exploration and discovery, beginning on Earth Day, April 22. Belonging to an unknown dragonfly species with the curious spirit of a five-year-old girl, Mundi, who will be showcased via interstitials, as well as on, takes young viewers on voyages that are a true celebration of the beauty of Earth.
"Discovery Familia is committed to being a safe haven for children that fosters an enduring appreciation of learning and we are excited to welcome our newest educational character, Mundi, to the family," noted Silberwasser.
