Discovery Goes Back to Pompeii

Discovery Channel will re-create the hours before one of the worst natural disasters of all time.

Two-hour special Pompeii: The Last Day, a Discovery/British Broadcasting Corp. co-production, will make its U.S. debut Sunday, Jan. 30 at 9 p.m., the network said Thursday.

Jonathan Firth (Victoria and Albert) and Jim Carter (Shakespeare in Love) star in the special, which combines dramatic reconstructions with expert investigations and elaborate special effects.

Pompeii: The Last Day was the highest-rated history program ever to run on the BBC in the United Kingdom when it aired Oct. 23, 2003.
