Discovery Health Channel has named Bob Reid senior vice president and
general manager, announced John Ford, president of Discovery Networks U.S.
Content Group.

Reid succeeds Kathy Quattrone, who stepped down at the end of June over relocation issues. Discovery Health vice president of production Donald Thomas served as interim GM.

In his new post, Reid, who had been working as vice president of production for Discovery Channel, will be Discovery Health's chief executive and
responsible for its strategic development and execution of programming and production strategies.

His body of work at Discovery included Discovery News and the Emmy Award-winning POWs: Stories of Survival, as well as such live shows as
Titanic Live, Twister Week, Live From A Shark Cage
and Mars Live! Reid joined the Discovery Channel production team in
1997 from Metamorphosis MediaWorks, a Los Angeles-based documentary production
company he found the year before.

"Bob Reid is the perfect choice for this job. His experience in developing
and delivering cutting-edge, award-winning programming is invaluable as
Discovery Health enters its third year as the dominant health and medical
channel in the U.S.," said Ford in a statement. Discovery Health, which debuted
Aug. 2, 1999, is now in some 27 million homes.

The network said his carriage guarantees that will place
before 52 million subscribers by 2003, according to Discovery
officials.
