Discovery Int’l Names Tomlin Programming VP

Discovery Vet Will Oversee Content Investment, Manage Network Partnerships

Discovery Networks International said it has named industry veteran Darcy Tomlin vice president of Programming and Operations. Tomlin will report to DNI’s senior vice president of International Programming and Operations Rosemary Newell.

In her new role Tomlin will manage the content partnership between Discovery Networks International and the US brand teams (Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science, Velocity, etc.) and have day-to-day operational oversight related to content investment.  She will also support Newell in the overall strategic planning and analysis around procuring and usage of shared content within the Discovery Networks International network portfolio.

Tomlin will be based in Discovery’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Tomlin is a 15-year Discovery Communications veteran and most recently served as senior director of programming with U.S. brand Velocity, responsible for developing the strategic scheduling of the day-to-day programming, stunts, specials and Upfront planning for the automotive network, which is available in 63 million US households.

“Darcy is perfectly poised to be a strategic and creative partner for our regional programming executives imbedded in-market and our US colleagues,” Newell said in a statement. “Of course, her deep knowledge of the Velocity brand will rev the engines of the global Turbo brand even further.”

Tomlin had previously worked at DNI, helping to launch the TLC brand around the world and working at Discovery’s Latin America division in Miami on the regional Discovery Channel and Animal Planet brands, as well as the Home & Health and Travel & Living brands.
