Discovery Ratings Take Flight Sunday

Discovery Channel specialThe Flight That Fought Back was the network’s highest-rated program year-to-date Sunday night.

The story of the 33 passengers and seven crew members on United Airlines Flight 93 -- which was hijacked, rerouted toward Washington, D.C., and crashed in Somerset County, Pa., Sept. 11, 2001 -- aired in its entirety without commercial interruption, the network said.

“We are proud that we were able to help raise the visibility and awareness of the actions of the 40 heroes on United Airlines Flight 93,” Discovery Channel U.S. executive vice president and general manager Jane Root said in a prepared statement. “The passengers’ extraordinary heroism prevented a much larger disaster in our nation’s capital, and Discovery is honored to have presented this tribute to their remarkable sacrifice.”
