Discovery Rolls Out Hispanic Content

Looking to provide more culturally relevant programming to Latinos in this country, Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group will debut a host of short-form content in the second quarter.

Discovery Travel & Living (Viajar y Vivir) will be home to content exploring history, restaurants and hotels.

Hispanic-American History is a series of travel vignettes highlighting the events and history around such landmarks as the California missions, the Freedom Tower in Miami and St. Augustine, Fla., while U.S. Latin Restaurants: Best-Kept Secrets serves as an insider's guide to many of the great Latin eateries around the country, proffering cuisine from Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. In Unique U.S. Hotels, Latin American model and TV personality Claudia Bahammon will give viewers alternatives to staying at chain locales, with properties distinguished by their design, guest services and amenities.

For its part, Discovery Kids en Español, in support of Earth Day this month, is airing Connect with Nature, a series of inspirational shorts aimed at kids 5-12 as means to enhance their enjoyment of nature and motivate them to care of the planet

In May, the service will present Sports Tips, with advice about exercise, athletics and active lifestyles dispensed by Colombian World Cup soccer player Carlos Valderrama, world champion skateboarder Paul Rodriguez Jr. and Florida Marlins right-fielder Miguel Cabrera, among others

"Discovery is committed to presenting the highest-quality and most culturally relevant programming to the U.S. Hispanic audience as we recognize the special interests of a varied community with origins throughout the Latin world," Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group senior vice president and general manager Luis Silberwasser said in a prepared statement. "Our original productions capture the local flavors and interesting people who contribute to the social fabric of the Hispanic culture in the United States."
