Discovery’s Planet Green Names New Marketing Chief

Discovery Communications has tabbed Tom Carr as the new senior vice president of marketing for Planet Green, its 24-hour eco-lifestyle channel.

Carr, who most recently served as a director and consulting chief marketing officer at Spanx, will be responsible for brand leadership and strategy across all content platforms for the network when it launches in June.

“Tom’s creative approach to brand building coupled with the time he has spent in the cable industry makes him a perfect addition to the Planet Green team,” Eileen O’Neill, president and general manager of Planet Green, said in a statement. “His experience in creating buzz-worthy campaigns with lasting impact will be invaluable as we prepare for the full-scale launch of Planet Green.”

Planet Green’s platforms include the eco-lifestyle Web site TreeHugger.com and the recently launched site, PlanetGreen.com.

The channel is expected to reach more than 50 million homes, providing what Discovery calls “the center for new green conversation, speaking to people who want to understand green living and to those who truly want to make a difference in meeting the critical challenge of protecting our environment.”
