Discovery Salutes Billy Mays in ‘Pitchman' Special Tonight

Discovery Channel will air Pitchman: A Tribute to Billy Mays tonight (Thursday) at 9 p.m. ET/PT, but has made no decision yet on how to proceed with Pitchmen, the Discovery show he co-starred in.

"Hi. Billy Mays here," the commercials for products such as OxiClean, Orange Glo, Kaboom and the Awesome Auger would begin, making the bearded Mays a well-known TV figure.

He died on June 28 at age 50 of an apparent heart attack at his home in Florida.

The hour-long documentary will showcase Mays's successful pitching career through in-depth interviews with several members of his immediate family, as well as colleagues in the infomercial industry, including his long-time friend and Pitchmen co-host, Anthony "Sully" Sullivan, Discovery said. Original Productions, creators of Deadliest Catchand numerous other shows including Pitchmen, produced it.

Pitchmen, the 12-part series featuring Mays and business partner Sullivan, began airing on Discovery Channel on April 15, 2009. The season finale aired July 1. No decision has been made regarding season two of the show, the network said, adding it was "focused on supporting Mays's family and friends during this time of incredible loss."

Discovery said it created a spot where tribute videos and comments about the legendary pitchman can be posted. Visit discovery.com/pitchmen and this Youtube site  for more.
