Discovery, Science Channel Simulcast Silver Anniversary Of Punkin Chunkin


Discovery Channel and sister service Science Channel will tag team this year's coverage of the World Champion Punkin Chunkin Association's silver anniversary on Turkey Day.
The network's will simulcast the 25th anniversary of the Delaware competition, which in 2010 features some 110 teams and 30,000 spectators, on Thanksgiving at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). Mythbusters' Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will serve as hosts of the special during which The Big 10 Inch squad is seeking to repeat.
"Next to football games, turkey and pumpkin pie, Punkin Chunkin is a national Thanksgiving tradition that showcases the country's thriving ingenuity, innovation and talent," said Clark Bunting, president and general manager of Discovery Channel, president of Science Channel. "Americans have big personalities and big passions, and both are hard at play in Punkin Chunkin."
"Punkin Chunkin is a lot of fun and we want to bring it to as many viewers as possible," noted Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vice president of programming for Science Channel. "We're excited to see if this special anniversary year of Punkin Chunkin will be the year a pumpkin is chunked more than a mile and breaks the record."
