Discovery Taps Karp to Head Digi-Nets

Discovery Networks U.S. has named David Karp senior vice president and
general manager of Discovery Digital Networks and New Media Ventures.

A nine-year Discovery veteran, Karp has been serving as senior vice
president, New Media Ventures.

In his new position, Karp will oversee all aspects of programming,
development, marketing and management of Discovery's digital channels --
responsibilities previously held by Charlie Humbard, who left last summer.

Karp, who reports directly to Discovery Networks U.S. Content Group president
John Ford, has been overseeing all of Discovery Networks' advanced TV efforts
with a primary focus on the development of video-on-demand services,
synchronized TV/Web experiences and the deployment of interactive- and
enhanced-TV services.

Karp will continue to manage a number of these business initiatives in
addition to his new responsibilities with Discovery Digital Networks.

In December, Discovery announced that Lori McFarling, senior vice president,
distribution and marketing strategy for affiliate sales, had taken the job of
directing the digital suite, including Discovery Science Channel, Discovery
Wings Channel, Discovery Civilization Channel, Discovery Home & Leisure
Channel and Discovery en Español.

A Discovery spokeswoman said McFarling opted to remain in her current post
because it was a better match with her skills, developed during a career
encompassing 13 years at Discovery and stints at C-SPAN and The Procter &
Gamble Co.
