Dish PPV Goes HD

Littleton, Colo.-EchoStar Communications Corp. last week said it planned to launch its first high-definition television pay-per-view movie channel last Saturday, Sept. 30.

The channel premiered with the James Bond titleThe World Is Not Enough, which sold for $5.99 in HD. Most of EchoStar's Dish Network PPV movie titles sell for $3.99.

To receive the new PPV channel and high-definition offerings from Home Box Office and Showtime, Dish Network customers must have a satellite dish pointed at the 61.5 degrees west longitude orbital location, plus an HDTV-capable Dish Network receiver and an HD-ready digital television.

Dish plans to airSuperNovain HDTV starting Oct. 14, andThe Ninth Gatein HDTV starting Oct. 24.
