Dishing It Up in Texas

Englewood, Colo.— The 11th Dish Network call center is set to open this month in Alvin, Texas.

Where’s Alvin?

It’s 25 miles south of Houston. The best known resident of the 21,000-population town is Nolan Ryan, who threw seven no-hitters in a major league career that included stops at the New York Mets, Houston Astros, California Angels and Texas Rangers.

The addition of the 600-job call center is part of a growing affinity between EchoStar Communications Corp., which owns Dish, and the Lone Star state.

The company already operates call centers in Harlingen and El Paso. And 28 miles north of Fort Worth is the town that last year renamed itself Dish, Texas.

That made all 125 residents customers of Dish. All 55 households got free installation and free Dish service for a decade.
