Disney Conjures Potter Deal


Anteing up for blockbuster programming for its ABC broadcast network and two
of its cable outlets, The Walt Disney Co. will pay an estimated $140 million to
televise the first two Harry Potter movies.

In a deal with Warner Bros., Disney has secured the basic-cable and broadcast
rights for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and its sequel, Harry
Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
. The Sorcerer's Stone will be
available to Disney in 2004.

Disney has the right to run the theatricals on ABC, as well as Disney Channel
and ABC Family, Disney's newly acquired cable network.
