Disney Hires Ex-Kennard Aide

Lawyer Susan Fox, a top aide to former Federal Communications Commission
chairman William Kennard, has been named vice president of government relations
for The Walt Disney Co.

Fox replaces Marsha MacBride, who left Disney's Washington office to become
chief of staff under new FCC chairman Michael Powell.

Fox played a key role in shaping the FCC's digital-television policies as
deputy chief of the Mass Media Bureau. She also served as senior legal advisor
to Kennard.

'Susan will be Disney's primary representative to the FCC. She has the
perfect background and is highly regarded throughout the agency,' said Preston
Padden, Disney's executive vice president of government relations, in a prepared
statement Tuesday.

One of Kennard's last actions as chairman was to launch an inquiry into
whether cable operators have the market power to discriminate against competing
interactive-television providers. Disney lobbied the FCC to launch that
inquiry.
