Disney’s 'Zapped' Draws 5.7 Million Viewers

Disney Channel ushered in the summer Friday with the premiere of original movie Zapped, which drew 5.7 million viewers.

The movie, which stars Zendaya (Shake It Up) as a teen girl with who discovers a smartphone app that controls the actions of boys, now ranks as the top cable TV telecast of 2014 among kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, according to Disney. The movie also averaged 1.3 million adults 18-49, according to the network.

Immediately after the movie, Disney’s new comedy series Girl Meets World delivered 5.2 million viewers in its premiere episode. The series, an offshoot of the 1990s series Boys Meet World, is now the top series launch of 2014 among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, according to Disney.

The movie and series also set viewing records after being made available on the popular WATCH Disney Channel app om June 23, with Girl Meets Worlds pacing to be the most viewed series ever in the WATCH Disney Channel app, according to network officials.
