DIY Gets Busy With How-To Series

DIY Network hopes to build on its positive
2010 primetime ratings performance with a series of new
reality how-to shows set to launch this year.

The Scripps Networks-owned outlet in February will
bow Family Under Construction, which follows serial movers
who finally settle down after living in 20 houses in 17
years, as well as Renovation Rookies, which follows a family
looking to build a house to complete the “ultimate renovation,”
according to network officials.

Other new programming set for launch in 2011 includes
Mega Dens, hosted by interior designer Anitra Mecadon
and featuring over-the-top recreation rooms; Rehab Addict,
starring licensed realtor Nicole Curtis, focused on
restoring old homes; and Hollywood Hi-Tech, which profi
les some of the hottest celebrity homes.

On the landscaping front, Extra Yardage, hosted by
landscape designer Billy Derian, transforms old, neglected
decks, patios and yards into world-class outdoor
entertainment spaces; while Yard Attack looks to
design and install a new outdoor space in a few hours.

Specials set for the first half of 2011 include Sweat Equity
Top 10; America’s Most Desperate Landscape; Cool Tools:
The Builders’ Show and Cool Tools: Electronics Show
.

The network is hoping its new renovation and landscaping
programs will continue the network’s ratings
momentum from 2010.

DIY posted a 2% primetime rating increase to 103,000
viewers, up from 101,000 in 2009.
