Dog Days Go to Lifetime

August is officially in the Nielsen books and Lifetime Television was at the
top of the primetime household charts for the month.

The women's targeted service averaged a 2.1 rating July 29 through Aug. 26,
down 5 percent from a 2.2 in August 2001.

Lifetime's performance was 0.2 points ahead of Turner Network Television,
which saw its household rating surge 27 percent from a 1.5 a year ago.

Nickelodeon (even) and USA Network (off 6 percent) were tied for third with a
1.7 apiece, according to a Turner Entertainment Research analysis of Nielsen
Media Research data. Cartoon Network (down 11 percent) and ESPN (up 33 percent)
were next, tied with a 1.6.

Rounding out the top 10 in primetime for the month: TBS Superstation at a 1.5
(down 17 percent); A&E Network at 1.1 (off 15 percent); and Discovery
Channel (down 17 percent), Fox News Channel (ahead 43 percent), Sci Fi Channel
(up 11 percent) and TNN: The National Network (even), all with a 1.0

TNT was tops for the month in primetime among adults 18 through 49 (1.11
million of those viewers) and 25 through 54 (1.23 million). USA was first among
adults 18 through 34 (516,000).

Nickelodeon was first in total day, growing its household rating 7 percent to
a 1.6. That easily surpassed the 1.2 ratings registered by Lifetime (down 8
percent) and Cartoon (even).
