The battle of humans against a legion of angels bent on man’s extinction is the premise behind Dominion, Syfy’s new series.
Set 25 years after the extinction of man (A.E.), human survivors have gathered in refugee cities that serve as protection against “lower” angels looking to vanquish man from the face of the earth. The humans are protected by Archangel Michael (Tom Wisdom), who turned against his kind and is living among the humans in the main settlement of Vega, within the ruins of Las Vegas. The humans believe a baby born years ago will arise and end the war against the angels.
Meanwhile, young soldier Alex Lannon (Christopher Egan) wants a life of freedom outside of Vega and plans his escape. But when the humans’ powerful antagonist, Archangel Gabriel (Carl Beukes) assembles the lower angels for a final war against the humans, mankind turns to Michael for protection. Michael then enlists Alex, who unknowingly possesses an unusual power that could lead the humans to victory.
The Last Ship
(TNT, Sunday, June 22 at 9 p.m.)
TNT will look to make good on its new tagline “Drama. Boom.” with the debut of the post-apocalyptic themed series The Last Ship.
Produced by Michael Bay (Transformers), the series revolves around a U.S. Navy ship helmed by Cmdr. Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) deployed to the Arctic supposedly for weapons training. On board is paleomicrobiologist Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra), who’s conducting biological tests on migrant birds. But when a fleet of Russian fighter planes attack both the doctor and the ship itself, Scott is forced to come clean to Chandler that her mission is to find a cure for a pandemic that, within a matter of months, has infected 80% of the world’s population.
The ship and its crew are then tasked to deliver Scott’s experiments to the United States in the hopes of finding a cure. But with most governments around the world compromised — including the U.S. — the ship finds itself in constant danger from others looking to capture the potential cure.
