A&E Network Biography host Harry Smith will keep his primetime job
while joining the new morning crew running CBS' The Early Show.

A&E executive vice president and general manager Dan Davids confirmed
Monday afternoon that Smith, Biography's host since 1999, will remain in
the role through 2004. Financial terms of the contract extension were not
disclosed.

Under Smith's tenure, Biography has passed 1,000 episodes and 15 years
on A&E, as well as offering its highest-rated episode ever (Oprah
Winfrey).

In two weeks, Smith will join NBC Sports host Hannah Storm, Dallas news
anchorwoman Rene Syler and current Early Show newsreader Julie Chen in a
remodeled version of the CBS program.

It will be the second time around in a morning role for Smith, having
co-anchored CBS This Morning more than one decade ago.
