Lifetime's dramedy series Drop Dead Diva drew nearly 3 million viewers in its third season premiere Sunday while setting show viewership records in several key demographics.

The series, which stars Brooke Elliott as a shallow model who dies in a sudden accident, only to find her soul resurfacing in the body of a brilliant, thoughtful and plus-size attorney, drew 2.9 million total viewers in its June 19 return, which was down from the 3.1 million viewers for its sophomore premiere last June but was up 17% versus year-to-date time period average, according to Lifetime.

The episode, which featured appearances by Paula Abdul, Wendy Williams and LeAnn Rimes, did set series season premiere records among adults 25-54 (1.5 million), adults 18-49 (1.3 million), women 25-54 (1.2 million), and women 18-49 (998,000), according to Nielsen Research.

The Drop Dead Diva premiere episode is also the series' second most-watched telecast among Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Women 25-54, behind the series' Aug. 2009 telecast, said the network.
