New research from Leichtman Research Group shows DSL gaining ground on
cable modems, while overall broadband growth is slowing.

The major DSL and cable providers added 1.55 million high-speed
subscribers in second quarter 2003, the lowest number of net additions since second quarter
2002.

DSL generated 625,000 units, or 40% market share, compared to 930,000 for
cable.

Heading into the quarter, cable enjoyed a 67% to 33% market share over
DSL.

Cable now counts 13.2 million high speed subs, according to LRG, compared to
7.4 million for DSL, making the total broadband universe 20.66 million
subscribers.
