The Academy Awards telecast on ABC may have been the lowest-rated in the
show's history, but E! Entertainment Television's coverage leading up to the
Hollywood kudos fest generated the highest viewership in the service's
E!'s Live from the Red Carpet averaged a 3.6 household rating from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. March 24, translating into some 3.76 million viewers, according
to Nielsen Media Research data.
The network said that marked the highest viewership total in its history.
That performance also represented a 15 percent jump over last year's 3.14
household ratings average.
Live from the Red Carpet was tied for the fifth among the highest-rated
basic-cable shows for the week of March 18 through 24, according to a Turner
Entertainment Research analysis of Nielsen data.
E! also scored with its six-hour presentation of Countdown to the Academy
Awards, which averaged a 0.92 household rating from noon to 6 p .m. that
day, a 30 percent advance from the previous year's edition.
For its part, E! Online broke its best
single-day mark with 22.3 million page views the day after the awards (March
25), a 23 percent improvement from 18.1 million on the corresponding day in
E! Online attracted 13.9 million page views on the day of the awards
