E!’s Oscars Ratings Down But Not Out

In its latest trip up the red carpet, E! Entertainment Television sustained a 20% roll-up from its coverage of last year’s Academy Awards entrances, but it still handily topped the ratings registered by TV Guide Channel.

E! averaged a 3.5 household rating for its Live from the Red Carpet: 2005 Academy Awards from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. (EST) Feb. 27 in 56 metered markets, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That was off 20% from the 4.4 E! scored in the overnights with its 2004 coverage of the Oscar walk-up.

For its part, TV Guide -- which wrested the team of Joan and Melissa Rivers from E! -- notched a 1.0 household average Sunday, a 150% jump from its 0.4 mark the prior year.

Despite the improvement, Joan & Melissa Live at the Academy Awards still lagged behind E!’s rating average by 250%, according to a network spokeswoman.
