E!, Style Rolling Out New Fare


Sister networks E! Entertainment Television and Style announced that they have 19 original programs in development, a slate executives said is the most aggressive in the networks' histories.

Not all of the shows will become series. For instance, E! programmers will plug six series slots, with the rest of the development slate becoming specials.

CEO Mindy Herman said the age of E!'s target demo has been "creeping up," so the new fare is designed to attract more younger viewers. E! will retain such tent-pole programming as E! News Live and E! True Hollywood Story, she added.

The new shows mine many current TV genres, includingdating shows.In E!'s Trophy Wife, young women woo a "super-rich entertainment mogul," and The Actress features 14 women cast into the roles they will play in order to seduce an unsuspecting beau. The winner's pay-off is a role in a Lions Gate Films production.

On Style, the new slate includes Uptown Salon,which observes the inhabitants of beauty parlors in Manhattan and the Bronx, and The Hotspottracking the transformation of the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel through a $15 million renovation designed to turn it into Tinseltown's next hip destination.
