EarthLink Network Inc. has hooked into two major retailers to boost its
broadband Internet services.
The Atlanta-based Internet-service provider first landed a multiyear,
multichannel deal that makes it the preferred provider of Internet services at
OfficeMax Inc. retail sites, as well as the business-supply chain's online
OfficeMax will market EarthLink Internet services, including high-speed
connections to more than 1,000 retail stores and OfficeMax.com. A kickoff
promotion will give OfficeMax customers $50 gift cards at the retail outlet if
they sign up for EarthLink service.
EarthLink followed up that deal with a pact forged with electronics retail
giant Circuit City Stores Inc.
That pact brings EarthLink high-speed Internet services to Circuit City's
'Broadband Station' kiosks in more than 600 stores. The kiosks offer information
about service providers, equipment and home-networking products.
EarthLink will market its digital-subscriber-line, two-way satellite and
cable-modem services at the kiosks.
With more than 406,000 subscribers, EarthLink has been among the more
aggressive ISPs in courting broadband. It has rolled service out in some 20 Time
Warner Cable markets, the most recent being Manhattan.
