EchoStar Communications Corp. reported sizable increases in second-quarter
revenue and operating income, while subscriber growth dipped slightly.
The direct-broadcast satellite provider said it generated $1.169 billion in
revenue in the quarter, a year-over-year increase of 21 percent, while operating
income jumped to $146 million from $64 million. Net income was $46 million
compared with a $6 million net loss in second-quarter 2001.
But subscriber additions of 295,000 were below the first quarter's 335,000
and the year-ago second-quarter figure of 350,000. The DBS provider counts 7.46
