Topping rival DirecTV Inc.'s plans to expand its local-broadcast-channel
offer to 100 markets by the end of 2003, EchoStar Communications Corp. said it
will add another 42 local markets, expanding its count to 106 by year-end.
And Mark Cuban's HDNet cut a carriage deal with EchoStar, which plans to
launch HDNet and HDNet Movies on its Dish Network this summer.
The catch: Subscribers need EchoStar's new 66-centimeter "SuperDish" in order
to get the high-definition programming.
