EchoStar, DirecTV Reach Keyword Agreement

EchoStar Communications and DirecTV revealed details of the settlement of litigations pending between them in the federal district courts in California and New York.

The two direct-broadcast satellite rivals said in a prepared statement that “neither of them will use the trademarks of the other as keywords unless and until the United States Supreme Court or the United States Congress establish that this practice is not a violation of the law.”

The companies had been suing each other -- in a dispute revolving around alleged trademark infringement -- over words they purchased from search engines like Google to promote their services

EchoStar and DirecTV added that neither party will have any further comment on these litigations or the settlement of them.
