EchoStar Snacks on Broadcom Chips

EchoStar Communications Corp. will use a combination of Broadcom Corp. chips in its new "DISH 322" and "Dish Player-DVR 522" direct-broadcast satellite set-top boxes, the vendor announced Monday.

The DISH 322 will use the "BCM7319," a satellite set-top decoder that integrates the equivalent functionality of two separate set-tops into a single chip. The DISH 322 will be able to deliver DBS programming to multiple televisions in different areas of a home.

And the "BCM7320" decoder chip will provide multi-television and picture-in-picture support, as well as digital-video-recording capability, in the Dish Player-DVR 522.
