Actor Tobey Maguire and poker champion Phil Hellmuth have joined start-up EdgeTV’s board of advisors, officials said Tuesday.
Maguire and Hellmuth will assist EdgeTV -- a planned cable network that bills itself as a one-stop destination for game players -- on a variety of fronts, particularly programming.
“I have always been a fan of games, and I am excited to be participating in the development and direction of EdgeTV,” Maguire said in a prepared statement. “I look forward to influencing the quality of the channel’s programming, and I am thrilled to have the ability to affect its overall direction.”
EdgeTV -- which has raised $10 million in funding and is represented by talent agency Creative Artists Agency -- has targeted a launch in the first quarter of 2005.
Maguire has portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in theatricals Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, while Hellmuth has won nine World Series of Poker championships, racking up more than $3.5 million in earnings.
