The Crown’s John Lithgow was the first winner during the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony Sunday night, taking home the top award in the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Category.

Lithgow, who plays Winston Churchill in the Netflix freshman drama series, beat out Jonathan Banks (AMC’s Better Call Saul);, Mandy Patinkin (Showtime’s Homeland), Michael Kelly (Netflix’s House of Cards), David Harbour (Netflix’s Stranger Things), Ron Cephas Jones (NBC’s This Is Us) and Jeffrey Wright (HBO’s Westworld)
